Name: Michael Davis
Hometown: Portland, ME
Currently lives in: Warwick Neck
Occupation: Army National Guard Recruiter
What’s your background?
Growing up on the lakes and beaches of Maine with one younger sister, I spent my summers with my grandparents in Pennsylvania. I became involved in music at a young age and eventually became the timpanist for the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra.
After high school I served on active duty in 2d Ranger Battalion in the Army before spending 9 years bouncing around as a chef, kitchen manager, bartender, carpenter, salesman, real estate appraiser, and musician. After 9/11 I reenlisted as a member of RI Army National Guard's Long Range Surveillance Detachment and deployed to Iraq. I had the opportunity to deploy to Afghanistan with Rhode Island's Airborne Infantry Company and now work as the recruiter for that unit.
I am the father of three daughters: ages 21, 19, and 11. The 11 year old didn't want me to participate in this article but the two other girls gave me their blessing. (The little one is holding out for me to marry Kristen Wiig.)
Tell us about yourself.
I'm a little slow to warm up to new people but love to spend time with my close friends. I usually hate the idea of going out but always have the best time once I do. There is almost nothing I won't do to make people laugh… or gasp. To say that I am a huge Elvis fan is a huge understatement. I love snowboarding, skydiving, playing rugby, riding my motorcycle, going to PawSox games at McCoy, playing guitar, writing music, and going to concerts and movies with my daughters. Many weekends are spent watching my youngest compete in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association. There isn't much that will keep me from watching the Patriots during football season.
What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I was a founding member and lead vocalist of Motor Booty Affair for six years and had four original songs featured on MTV in the '90s.
What appeals to you in a potential date?
I will not waste time with negative people. I will not put on an act to impress anyone and prefer to spend time with people who are genuine and honest about who they are. Dealmakers: positive outlook, honesty, loyalty, and respect for others. Deal breaker: I have promised a superior officer that if he talked trash about The King again in my presence that I would punch him in the face.
