Tell us about yourself.
I came to Rhode Island after living in Los Angeles, Oregon, Hawaii, Texas, Tennessee and Boston. My jobs were as numerous as my moves! I've held positions ranging from journalist and editor to working in an entertainment law office.
I fell in love with hot yoga 8 years ago and I knew I wanted to open a studio. I researched various cities and felt immediately at home in Providence. I would never have thought that this would be where I'd finally put down roots, but I feel quite content in Rhode Island. The people I've met in Providence are the best, and I'm happy to have landed here.
How do you spend your free time?
I started writing a list of my interests and decided I should just admit I'm pretty geeky. I'll watch any Star Trek anytime. For movies, I'm happy to check out science fiction, action, thrillers, but please, no romantic comedies. I love reading Balzac and Murakami. Music: from Willie Nelson to Al Green and Blossom Dearie. I'll take the beach in the summer and a fireplace in the winter, and pizza for all four seasons. I pick cats over dogs, NPR over Fox News, and the farmer's market over fast food.
Where can we find you on a Friday night?
I never spend a Friday night alone — you will find me at the studio, teaching the evening classes.
What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you?
In high school, I had a jet black mohawk. Also, I can't get enough of the NBA.
If someone is reading this story and wants to get to know you, what’s your advice to them on doing that?
I like to take it slow. When I meet someone new I'm interested in it's important that we click as friends, especially when it comes to our senses of humor. I appreciate an optimistic attitude and an easy laugh. When someone comes on too strong, I feel we won't be a good fit.
I've had an adventurous life and learned to rely on myself. Because of that I tend to be especially independent. I enjoy the company of friends and family, but I also need time alone to recharge. I think I'd be most compatible with someone who has a similar outlook.
What are you looking for in a potential mate? What qualities are important, and which aren’t?
I'd like to meet someone who I can talk with and be quiet with. Someone who enjoys eating more than dieting. Someone who is easy going yet has a passion. I don't have a specific picture of the right guy for me. I like to stay open to the possibilities instead of trying to figure it all out in advance. However, a pessimistic attitude is a no-go for me.
Dating in Providence isn’t easy – everyone knows everyone else, and everyone has dated everyone else. What’s your take on dating here?
I only moved to Providence 3 years ago to start my studio, and I've had my hands full ever since. It is only recently that I've had the time to start even thinking about dating. So, for me, it is all fresh territory here!
