“My philosophy is simple: to inspire, teach, and create art with artistic techniques and subjects,” says Lynn Murphy. Her business, Craftersnight Educational Arts Studio, is a place to have fun and be creative. It started as Time to Design, an embroidery and quilting store, but has grown into a haven for people looking to explore different mediums and learn more about creating everything from jewelry to paintings to textile arts. “The best part of what I do each day is learning something new in the art world and teaching it to others,” she says.
At Craftersnight, every Thursday is Open Studio Paint Night, when people can choose any painting in the studio and learn how to paint it themselves. This year, Lynn is launching a new Art Masters Series for Paint Night, where students learn to paint a classic work of art and learn about the artist. Other classes include wreath making, jewelry making, candle making, wine glass painting, and sewing and quilting lessons. Craftersnight also hosts birthday parties for kids and adults, as well as corporate events and art camps. “The kids really enjoy learning to knit, sew, and create soap and candles,” Lynn says. “It’s important to me to show kids what it was like to sit around the kitchen table like I did with my grandmother and learn how to sew on a button or knit a scarf. Creativity helps kids learn in so many different ways.”
