February 6: Limber up and lace up those kicks, because winter time is the right time for the Belleville Pond 10k Trail Race. With a course threading through the trails of Ryan Park, this race boasts ten kilometers of snowy wonder that’s sure to help you kick the winter blues. 10am. Ryan Park, North Kingstown.

February 13: Feel the burn amidst a wonderful wintry landscape and enjoy Cross Country Skiing at Pulaski State Park, hosted by the Narragansett Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, featuring three miles of skiing on groomed trails with some gentle hills to get your heart pumping. 151 Pulaski Road, Chepachet. 401-726-2773,

March 5: With ocean views at nearly every turn, be sure not to miss the Ocean’s Run Half Marathon, 4 Miler & Kids Fun Run, featuring a flat, fast and furious course winding through the Westerly beach communities of Misquamicut and Weekapaug. 8:30am. 257 Atlantic Avenue, Westerly.

March 5: For a first-ever wintertime race, hit the frozen fields and trails of Camp Canonicus for the BoldrDash Winter Adventure Run with Obstacles, offering 20 or so obstacles dotted along an accessible 5k course. 9am. 54 Exeter Road, Exeter. 401-374-1353,

March 5, 19 & 26: May the road rise up to meet you all month long in the Guinness Tour De Patrick, a three part 5k road race series, comprised of the Irish 5k, the St. Pat’s 5k and the Shamrock Shuffle 5k with routes along the streets of Pawtucket, Providence and North Kingstown, respectively. Runners can choose to enter a single race, but those who run all three can add up their times to tally their final score in this test of the Luck – and stamina – of the Irish. 952-6333,

March 28: With a lengthier course offering gentle ups and downs and stunning panoramas along the sweeping loop of the Scituate Reservoir, test your stamina at the 8th Annual Run the Reservoir 15k to benefit the Trinity Church Food Closet and tune up for the spring marathon season. April 9: Om is where the heart is at the 4th Annual Rhode Island Yoga Festival, featuring Rhody’s most studied and practiced yoga teachers offering workshops on asana, yoga philosophy, kirtan, Bollywood Dance, Full Radiance and so much more during this one-day celebration of the Ocean State yoga sangha.

April 9: Step out of your comfort zone and rise to the challenge at the Cumberland F.I.T. Challenge Spring 2016, a 5k adventure course tracing the rough and tumble terrain of Diamond Hill State Park and featuring more than 30 obstacles. 8am. Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.

April 10: So goes the Fighting Seabee saying,“We build, we fight.” Tap into your inner Seabee – and all the guts and gumption that entails – at the Quonset Point Half Marathon and 5K. 8:30am. Quonset Point Naval Air Station, North Kingstown. 401-688-5779

April 24: If you run on road races or if road races keep you running, be sure not to miss the Blackstone Valley Running Festival, complete with half-marathon and 5k course options, as well as a post-race party at Murphy’s Irish Pub featuring live Irish music and deep discounts on food and drink. 8am. Pawtucket City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket.

May – All month long: Give your competitive spirit the day off and enjoy the ride – 26 miles point to point, to be exact – at the 4 Bridges Ride to benefit Save the Bay. An untimed charity ride, the 4 Bridges course will snake through Jamestown, Newport, Middletown and beyond, spanning the Jamestown, Newport Pell, Sakonnet and Mount Hope bridges. 7am. Starting line at the Park and Ride, Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.

May 1: Got endurance? Put your pedals where your mouth is at The Battle at Burlingame Mountain Bike Cross Country Classic and 6 Hour Endurance Race. Not for the faint of heart, both the endurance ride and cross country classic race thread through the wilderness trails of Burlingame Campground, featuring a single track ride with technical sections and climbs that are sure to test your perseverance and guarantee a fast and furious battle of wills. 8am. Burlingame Campground, Charlestown.

May 6: Get that spine moving and grooving without over-stretching your budget at the weekly Community Bikram Yoga Class, held at East Bay Bikram Yoga. May 14: Plan to get way down and way, way dirty at the Final BoldrDash in the Mud at Yawgoo, an  adventure run of about four miles with more than 25 exciting and challenging obstacles with mud. Lots of it. 9am. 160 Yawgoo Valley Road, Exeter.

June – All month long: Rock out your fitness under the warmth of the summer sun with stand up paddle board (SUP) or surfing lessons from Paddle Surf RI. Offering group, semi-private and private lessons, as well as ocean or flat water SUP options and dreamy full moon tours, Paddle Surf RI features “classrooms” in the Westerly, Watch Hill, Misquamicut, Charlestown and Weekapaug areas. 3 India Point Road, Westerly. 401-741-5661,

June 3-5: Celebrate life, community and health at GloriDays, a three day walk spanning 44 miles through the scenic East Bay to benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Center’s future Survivorship and Wellness Center here in the Ocean State.

June 5: Greet the sunshine in fighting form this summer at the Newport Ten Miler, featuring a breathtaking course along the bend of Newport’s scenic coast, ending with a high-style flourish as participants cross the finish line through the north gate of historic Fort Adams, all to benefit the Fort Adams Trust. 7:30am. June 22: With a fun, off-road course, good spirited competition and an early evening start time for dreamy twilight ocean views along the way, the Colt State Park 5k is poised to be a real deal stroll – or run, rather – in the park for both experienced runners and novices, alike. 6pm. July 10: Test your physical stamina and mental mettle at the first annual Blue Lobster Splash and Dash Aquathon at Colt State Park, featuring a quarter mile swim sandwiched between a duo of two mile runs. 7am. Colt State Park, Bristol.

July 16: Three cheers for… beer? Detox to retox at the Ocean State installment of Craft Beer Race 5k at scenic Fort Adams State Park in Newport, featuring both running and walking options for participants. On the other side, enjoy a three-hour post race celebration of fitness, community and – of course – craft beer, offering unlimited samplings of the finest local brews. August 6:
Get pumped for the Insane Inflatable 5k, headed to the greater Providence area for the first time ever, featuring a 5k course with fun, inflatable obstacles to jump and bounce your way over and through. 8:30am. Seekonk Speedway, 1710 Fall River Avenue, Seekonk.

August 13: In the spirit of preserving our namesake waters here in the Ocean State, don your goggles and layer on that waterproof SPF for the Annual Save the Bay Swim, the iconic open water trek of 1.7 nautical miles traversing Narragansett Bay from Newport to Jamestown, held yearly since 1977. 9:15am. September 11: Head into fall with a trail race of a decadent variety at the 2016 Harvest Wine Run featuring a course spanning about 3.5 miles along the beautiful paths and trails of the Aquidneck Land Trust, and wrapping up with a finish line BBQ with plenty of wine and live music. 3pm. September 11: This year, why not give it a whole-hearted tri at the FirmMan Half Iron Triathlon and test your tenacity with a 1.2 mile open water swim, followed by a 56 mile ride and a 13.1 mile run, with other racing options available to athletes, as well.
