In the second concert of this year’s Community MusicWorks Sonata Series, we explore the special sound world of Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann—deep feeling and heartfelt melodies charted over oceanic musical structures.
The program features Three Romances by Clara Schumann, played on viola and piano by Sebastian Ruth and Eliko Akahori. Mezzo soprano Krista River joins the duo for the two Brahms songs op. 91 for alto voice, viola, and piano that masterfully match the rich sonorities of the viola voice and mezzo soprano.
Miguel Vásquez and Eliko close out the program with Brahms’ tempestuous and affecting Cello Sonata No. 2 in F Major. You won’t want to miss this evening of music!
