Weekly outdoor market celebrates food, culture, and community

Sankofa World Market is a weekly celebration of food, community, and culture of the West End. The market offers fresh, locally grown produce, prepared food, handmade goods, live music, cooking demonstrations, and more. Sankofa Market highlights specialty crops from our diverse mix of growers, including bitter ball, bitter melon, sweet potato greens, bitter leaf, luffa, Asian corn, amaranth, water spinach, long beans, melons, and much more. Shoppers can use their SNAP/EBT and WIC to purchase fresh produce. The market runs on Wednesdays, 2pm-6pm, at the Knight Memorial, 275 Elmwood Avenue, through October.

Busy summer in the North End

The North End Neighborhood Association (NENA) had great success planting in Hopkins Square Park this summer, and it’s been wonderful to see the community enjoy the space. The park has come alive with a variety of great events, including Opera in the Park, St. Ann’s Festival, and Summer Violin Melodies by Oriana Mujica. These events bring people together and are fun for all ages. For a full list of upcoming events in the North End, check NenaPVD.org/events. –Submitted by Alice Gorman

Summit’s folk festival, community yard sale, and T-shirt design contest

Once again, the Summit Neighborhood Association’s (SNA) annual community yard sale will take place over two days this year: September 26-27, from 9am-1pm each day. Participants may choose to hold their yard sales either or both days. To join our yard sale map, register online at SNA.Providence.ri.us. SNA is also excited to be one of the sponsors of the new Swell Folk Festival, happening on Sunday, September 20 at Lippitt Park. The festival is a free community event, where you can enjoy live folk and roots music, local vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, family activities, artisan markets and more throughout the day. Bring a blanket, discover local artists and businesses, and experience a new community tradition centered around music, creativity, and connection. Learn more at SwellFolkFestival.com. We are looking for a new SNA T-shirt design! If you have an artistic flair and would like to see your design walking around the neighborhood, submit your work to snaprov@gmail.com. There’s even a prize! Deadline to submit is October 16. –Submitted by Sharon Lee Waldman
