Walk into COTTAGE CHIC DECOR and you’ll notice the beautiful blend of old and new: vintage lighting, glassware, gifts, candles, and furniture alongside the works of talented artisans like resident photographer Tracey Lee Michaelson of Painting Daisies Photography. “Home decor has always been my passion,” says Maureen, shop owner and decorator who gravitates towards Old World nautical, coastal, and cottage styles. Maureen is a member of the Narragansett, Block Island, and Southern Rhode Island Chambers of Commerce as well as the Wakefield Village Association. “I believe we have carved out a niche that most of our clients are looking for,” referring to the number of people who are downsizing or moving to their summer homes, in need of smaller (but still stylish) pieces to personalize their spaces. She even owns a boutique rental on Block Island, The Island Jewel, that is decorated by Cottage Chic Decor. This year, Maureen looks forward to taking on consignments, adding new vendors, incorporating more outdoor pieces (including some plants in funky vessels), and hosting outdoor vintage markets in May and September.
