Join us at beautiful River Island Art Park in downtown Woonsocket for 7th of 10 FREE concerts for the Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series. Concerts will continue every Friday from July 9 - September 17 (skipping September 3).

August 20th features RI's own salsa star EhShawnee with opening jazz act also hailing from RI, Michelle Cruz. MCed by Marlon Carey.

The Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series is FREE and open to the public. Come ready to eat, dance, and have a great time! Bring a friend and something to sit on.

ABOUT EHSHAWNEE

Shawnee Taveras is a Dominican-American singer-songwriter, specializing in the salsa genre and a media personality living in Providence, Rhode Island. Taveras is a member of the Telemundo Providence cast and has released several singles.

In 2019, Taveras was awarded the Premio Conga de la Salsa in the Dominican Republic for best new musical act. She has had top ten singles in the Dominican Republic and has toured extensively in that country as well as on the US East Coast. Taveras has appeared on television and radio shows in the Dominican Republic including El Show de Jochy Santos, Te Estoy Facturando, La Belleza es Mia con Mia Cepeda, El Zol de la Mañana, and El Mismo Golpe. In 2013, she received an award for artistic excellence from the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Youth.

Taveras was born in Santo Domingo in 1993 and her family moved to Rhode Island when she was young. She started her music career in Providence in 2007, by participating in El Festival de La Voz. Shortly after, she performed at festivals and concerts across the region. She has also performed throughout the Dominican Republic. Her musical influences include Milly Quezada, Shakira and Juan Luis Guerra.

ABOUT MICHELLE CRUZ

Michelle Cruz is a singer/songwriter who blends jazz, folk and rock in her music. Named “Sultry” by the Jeff Buckley International Newsletter, Michelle has opened for Judy Collins, appeared at WXPN’s World Cafe Live and was asked to pay tribute to the late folk legend Odetta at a 2010 MLK Jr. Day Celebration. Michelle landed in the Top15 for the Lilith Fair Local Talent Search. Cruz recently found herself sharing the stage with Lead Trumpeter of Wynton Marsalis' Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Sean Jones. Michelle has been featured in print media including Sodade (Cape Verde) and Blurt magazines, and made several appearances on Fox's morning show, "The Rhode Show". A career highlight proved to be her performances for "George Wein and Friends". "It was such an honor to be part of an event with the creator of the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals.

Concert Location & Parking Info:

RIVER ISLAND ART PARK

River Island Art Park is located at 95 Bernon Street, Woonsocket RI. The park offers plenty of open grass for seating and is right along the beautiful Blackstone River.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to the open lawn concert setting. All ages are welcome, and admission is FREE.

Free parking is available at municipal lots throughout the city.
