Flying Horse Carousel

This is the oldest continuously operating carousel in the country, built in 1876. It is also the only remaining one of its kind, with the horses suspended from a center frame instead of attached to a floor.

About a 15-minute walk from town at the east approach of Fishers Island Sounds, you’ll find this specimen dating back to 1856 (though the site has been in operation since 1808). Though the lighthouse itself is closed to the public, the scenic grounds are open and a museum is open limited hours in July and August.
