Providence just gained a new reason to smell something good in the air. Hope & Main has officially broken ground on West End Kitchens, a second Rhode Island home for the beloved food business incubator that has already helped hundreds of local makers get their start. The project brings a wave of excitement to the neighborhood and a major boost for aspiring food founders ready to test, taste, and take off.
Hope & Main has spent more than ten years proving what can happen when people with great ideas get the space and support to grow them. More than 575 businesses have launched through its Warren headquarters, many of them created by women, immigrants, and entrepreneurs of color. Their Downtown Makers Marketplace gave Providence a first taste of what Hope & Main can spark in the city. Now West End Kitchens will take that momentum and multiply it.
Set to open in Spring 2026, the new facility features three rentable kitchens designed for brand-new and early-stage food ventures. It also includes a high-volume production kitchen to help scaling businesses keep up with demand. Hope & Main has already opened applications for its Inaugural Class and expects to help 50 new businesses launch in the first year alone.
Founder and President Lisa Raiola sees the expansion as a meaningful investment in Rhode Island’s future. “Our expansion to Providence is a bold investment in equity, opportunity, and community,” she said. “West End Kitchens will allow us to serve many more foodpreneurs at a time when post-COVID demand for affordable space is surging, and inflation and risk are rising for food startups.”
U.S. Senator Jack Reed echoed that optimism. “I have been a proud supporter of Hope & Main from day one because it is a place where food and opportunity come together,” he said. “Hope & Main helps innovative food entrepreneurs overcome high startup costs.”
A major partner in the project, TRIO Community Meals, plans to relocate from Massachusetts and produce up to 2,000 prepared meals a day for Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island from the new space. Executive Director Meg Grady shared, “More than proximity, this partnership is about shared purpose and working to meet the food and health needs of Rhode Islanders.”
With strong financial backing and a clear vision, West End Kitchens is shaping up to be a lively creative hub that reflects the diversity, talent, and entrepreneurial spirit of Rhode Island. Providence’s food scene already shines, but this new launchpad is poised to make it even brighter. For more information on Hope & Main, visit makefoodyourbusiness.org.
