It’s no secret that Rhode Island’s food community knows how to make a meal feel bigger than what’s on the plate. On August 19, FeedRI will bring farmers, chefs, and diners together for its inaugural Field to Fork Farmers Market, a tasting event where every bite helps support students and families across the state.
From 4:30-7:30 PM, guests can move through the Johnson & Wales University Culinary Arts Museum while sampling small bites created by 17 Rhode Island farms and 17 local chefs, restaurants, and culinary partners. The setup gives visitors a chance to meet the people behind the ingredients, then taste what happens when those ingredients land in the hands of a local kitchen.
The museum makes the evening feel even more special. Rarely open to the public, the collection includes historic menus, vintage culinary equipment, rare cookbooks, and artifacts that trace how food and hospitality have changed over time. Between tastings, guests can wander through the exhibits and get a closer look at a Providence space many locals still haven’t seen.
“Field to Fork is a celebration of the farmers, chefs and producers who make Rhode Island’s food community so special,” said FeedRI Executive Director Rhonda Lapham.
That spirit shows up in pairings like Wright’s Dairy Farm with Big Feeling, Ocean State Shellfish Cooperative with Little Sister, Walrus & Carpenter Oysters with Paula’s, and Radical Roots Farm with Waterman Grille. The mix moves from dairy and produce to oysters and prepared bites, giving the room the feel of a very Rhode Island dinner party with a museum attached.
The evening also supports Feed the Future, FeedRI’s school pantry program. The organization currently operates pantries in 21 Rhode Island schools, where students and families can access fresh and shelf-stable food during evenings, weekends, vacations, and other times when school meals aren’t available. FeedRI plans to open at least five more locations by the end of 2026, giving the night’s farm-to-table celebration a purpose that reaches well beyond the museum.Tickets are available for purchase online, For more information about Field to Fork and FeedRI’s statewide programs visit FeedRI.org
