Every holiday season has its unofficial kickoff, and in Providence, it’s The Good Trade Makers Market. Now in its fifth year, this beloved weekend shopping event returns to WaterFire Arts Center on November 22-23, bringing together nearly 100 independent makers from across Rhode Island and beyond for two days filled with creativity, connection, and holiday cheer.
Hosted by Cranston-based Ampersand Creative Co., The Good Trade has become a favorite tradition for locals who want to shop small, sip something seasonal, and celebrate the best of Rhode Island’s maker scene. “We started planning The Good Trade’s first makers market in the midst of the pandemic,” says co-owner BJ Mansuetti. “Especially at that time, we all felt the need to support one another and to be together. Now going into our fifth year, we’re proud that this event has become a cozy home for an incredible and growing community of talented and positive-minded makers from up and down the east coast.”
Half of this year’s vendors hail from Rhode Island, while others will make the trip from New England, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Visitors can browse everything from hand-poured candles and jewelry to gourmet foods, ceramics, art prints, and home goods, making it an ideal destination for thoughtful, locally made gifts that tell a story.
“Our goal is to boost the local economy by creating inclusive spaces and unique events where makers can connect with other businesses and the people who support them,” says co-owner Robin Dionne. Beyond shopping, guests can join in “Plinko for a Cause,” a $5 game that lets participants win prizes while supporting WaterFire Providence’s artist programs and community initiatives.
Each ticket includes a complimentary beverage or treat from sponsors such as Inside Voices bar, Narragansett Beer, New Harvest Coffee Roasters, Topo Chico, or Gather Farm.
