When most people think about celebrating the Fourth of July, they think of things like cookouts and fireworks, but the South County Museum in Narragansett celebrates by welcoming 200 newly hatched chicks into the world. The Fourth of July Rhode Island Red Chick Hatch is an annual tradition and serves as a twofer, allowing guests to celebrate the birth of our nation and the birth of new members of our official state bird’s flock. These chicks will fill the ranks of the museum’s living history farm and fill your heart with more warm and fuzzies than you can handle. Speaking of handling something warm and fuzzy, guests will even get a chance to hold the newly hatched chicks. Last year, nearly 500 visitors flocked to the museum to greet Rhode Island’s newest – and cutest – feathered ambassadors.
Keep an eye out for other events happening all throughout the summer as South County Museum celebrates its 85th anniversary, like a Blacksmithing Workshop for Kids (July 11-13) and gallery talks happening through the fall. Narragansett
