First and foremost, Gayle Goldin did have an opponent in her first election in 2012 - to say that she “stepped in” to the seat “with no opposition” is wrong and unfair to Maryellen Butke who also ran in 2012. Second, with respect to the endorsement process this year, the deadline for endorsement was set by the Secretary of State’s office - the timing of the endorsement shouldn’t have raised anyone’s eyebrows because the endorsing committee had no flexibility as to timing.
