Inspired Driftwood Designs in Westerly

Posted

The Westerly-based husband and wife duo behind The Woods Collective, Zach and Sheena Gencarelle, collects driftwood of all shapes and sizes, including bark-like pieces, smoothened branches and sun-bleached logs washed ashore to create a variety of home decor. Their clocks, bookends and wall decorations, which include letters of the alphabet and name banners, are all made from locally sourced beach wood gathered from their coastal surroundings, including Weekapaug, Misquamicut and Napatree Point.

Their business came out of the blue, so to speak, when Zach got the urge to make a unique gift for his wife Sheena by combining a dismantled vintage clock and a perfectly shaped piece of wood found on the Weekapaug shore.

Despite having no previous experience in the process, his work of “heart” was enough of a success to start an online shop. Inspired by Zach’s thoughtful gift, Sheena began gathering smaller pieces of driftwood, shaping them into the letters that they’re equally well known for. Today, they draw their inspiration from watching their children play, listening to music and the natural beauty of where they live. Zach and Sheena’s work is available on Etsy.
