The Sibelius Connection: Electric Guitar Meets Orchestra

Posted by NewBedfordSymphony

Not to be missed! Rock musician Lauri Porra performs the U.S. premiere of Entropia, his own Concerto for Electric Bass and Orchestra, with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.

Lauri is best known for his work with the band Stratovarius. He has released three instrumental solo albums and composed score music for numerous movies, TV series, and commercial spots. He premiered his Entropia: Concerto for Electric Bass and Orchestra with Lahti Symphony Orchestra in 2015. Born in Helsinki in 1977, Lauri is a fourth generation musician and the great-grandson of popular Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. At age six, he began playing cello in a local music school. In 1993, he switched to bass guitar and continued his studies at the Helsinki Pop Jazz Conservatory. He has taken lessons on piano, double bass, trumpet, and male vocals, and from 1997-1999, he sang with the renowned YL Male Voice Choir.

Following Entropia, the orchestra will perform
