Go behind the scenes with the musical talents of the Chanteuse Mardi Gras Ball

Posted

When she founded Chanteuse, a bi-monthly female-centric (but not female-only) showcase for local musicians and songwriters, singer Jess Powers just wanted to provide a stage for some of the diverse local talent that she felt deserved more attention. Now, two years and 12 shows later it has coalesced into a unique collaboration that has drawn together some of the best and brightest in the Providence and New England music scenes. The two-year anniversary show is celebrating that in a big way: the Chanteuse Mardi Gras Ball will feature a diverse array of talent and musical style: Ms. Powers will be sharing the stage with fellow vocalists Sara Azriel, Caroline Hecht, Miss Wensday, Kristen Minsky, Roz Raskin and Tai Awolaju. Not to be outdone by the singers, the supporting band is packed with top notch players under the musical direction of trumpeter Eric Bloom, including Tyler-James Kelly of the Silks on guitar and a New Orleans-style brass section. The party starts at 8pm on February 9 at Fete – but we've got a behind-the-scenes sneak preview of what you can expect at the Mardi Gras Ball.
