Uptown Theater Reopens in Providence with Star-Studded Lineup and Stunning Renovation

The nearly 100-year-old theater gets a fresh start thanks to local visionaries and a whole lot of love

After nearly a century of curtain calls, clinking glasses, and the electric pause before the lights go down, Providence’s Uptown Theater is stepping back into the spotlight with a bold new look and a stacked calendar full of shows people won't want to miss.

Local entrepreneurs Cory Brailsford and David Fiorillo, known for running Comedy Connection and Black Duck Tavern, have taken on the project with heart and hustle. They’ve brought the venue into the modern age while keeping its old-school personality intact.

The theater closed in October 2024 and spent the next eight months going through serious upgrades. Now it has new lobby bars on both floors, updated restrooms, completely redone electrical and plumbing systems, and air conditioning that actually works. There’s a brand-new sound booth with modern tech, plus soft, roomy seats that might make you forget to get up when the crowd starts cheering. The ceiling has been carefully restored, and the original 1920s balcony seats are shining again like they used to.

“It’s been a real journey bringing the Uptown Theater back to life,” Fiorillo shares. “We’ve pulled together the best parts of the past and the present so every guest can feel the magic of live shows in a space that respects its history but looks ahead.”

The relaunch starts with “Soundcheck LIVE,” a soft-opening concert with local bands Northeast Traffic, Jetty, and Z-Boys. Comedy fans should take note of upcoming acts too. Kevin Nealon performs on August 14, Anthony Rodia on October 12, and Dan Soder follows on October 24. Music fans can catch Ace Frehley on September 5, moe. on September 6, and Deer Tick to ring in the New Year.

On top of that, Uptown is giving away ten Golden Passes that offer free admission to every show during the 2026 anniversary year. People who join the Century Club get more chances to win, along with early ticket access and VIP-style extras. Tickets and memberships are available at UptownPvd.com.
