Trinity Rep’s 2025-26 season embraces the unexpected with a genre-bending mix of espionage on roller skates, a ghostly holiday classic reimagined, and a rock musical that hits every emotional chord. Far from ordinary, the lineup dives headfirst into complexity, delivering bold stories that stir the soul, spark reflection, and celebrate the transformative power of live theater.

The Tony Award-winning company has unveiled its 62nd season lineup, promising a theatrical year filled with identity, transformation, and connection. From world premieres to Shakespeare, all performances will take place in the cozy confines of the Dowling Theater while renovations continue in the main space.

“I am particularly excited about next season because it feels like a homecoming for some of our long-time artistic collaborators,” said Artistic Director Curt Columbus. “With works from contemporary playwrights and classics such as Shakespeare and Dickens, this season is not to be missed!”

The curtain rises September 4 with Cold War Choir Practice, a world premiere by Ro Reddick, a recent graduate of Brown University’s MFA program. Set in a retro roller-skating rink during the Reagan era, the story follows a Black family’s tangled reunion – complete with Cold War espionage, capitalist cults, and original music. “Her plays are wildly intelligent, wickedly funny, and inherently socio-political,” said Columbus of Reddick, a nominee for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.

In November, the holiday spirit returns with Trinity Rep’s iconic A Christmas Carol, back for its 49th year. This season, the tale of Scrooge’s redemption moves to the Dowling Theater for the first time, under the direction of former Artistic Director and Emmy Award-winner Richard Jenkins and celebrated choreographer Sharon Jenkins.

January through March brings repertory programming to the stage, with Jen Silverman’s The Roommate and Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale running in rotation. Directed by Columbus, The Roommate is a witty story of unexpected friendship and reinvention. Stepping into the director’s chair for The Winter’s Tale is Ben Steinfeld of Fiasco Theater, guiding audiences through a lyrical journey from jealousy to forgiveness.

April brings Primary Trust, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play about embracing change. Directed by resident company member Tatyana-Marie Carlo, the offbeat comedy blends charm, introspection, and hope in equal measure.

The season wraps with a bang (and a few power chords) with Next to Normal, the groundbreaking rock musical exploring mental health and family bonds. Directed by former Associate Artistic Director Amanda Dehnert, the production marks her return to Trinity Rep after more than twenty years.
