Providence Media Announces Staff Promotions and New Hire

Providence Media recently announced two promotions and a new hire. Editor Abbie Lahmers was promoted to managing editor, and Sascha Roberts, a former account manager who also coordinated social media, moved into the newly created role of digital media manager. Additionally contributing writer Karen Greco is now editor.

Originally from Delmont, PA, Lahmers began at Providence Media in November of 2019. Prior to joining, she served as copy editor for Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, including the Narragansett Times. Past roles include managing editor of Arts & Letters, a national literary magazine based in Georgia, and editing for other literary magazines and small presses. She received her BS in English at Slippery Rock University of PA and MFA in writing from Georgia College and State University. In her new role Lahmers will continue taking the lead on Food, Rhody Gems, Neighborhood News and the Hey Rhody e-newsletter, which she has transformed into a MWF mini-publication filled with magazine highlights, weekend must-do's, and seasonal roundups. She lives in Providence.

Hailing from Cumberland, Roberts joined the Company in January of 2020. During the pandemic, she initiated taking over social media efforts, which resulted in major engagement boosts to all Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts (12 in all). In her new role, she also manages all four websites, develops sponsorship opportunities, and co-hosts the new Hey Rhody Podcast with General Manager, Nicholas DelGiudice. After attending Suffolk University, Roberts worked for many years in retail and cosmetic management and as a freelance makeup artist. Active in diabetic causes, she has worked with Patients for Affordable Drugs. She lives in Providence.

The newest addition to the editorial team is Karen Greco, a seasoned writer whose career started in beauty, fitness, and fashion editorial at Elle Magazine and Ladies’ Home Journal. She later detoured into entertainment public relations, working mainly in live theater and music with a smattering of celebrity, books, film, and television projects. She has taught a class on Persuasion at Lehman College (part of CUNY), and is a novelist of seven books and a novella. Greco received a BFA from University of Connecticut and MA from New York University. She lives in Narragansett.
