From bright, flaky salmon to savory shredded pork, tacos can feature just about anything. Once exclusive to Mexican cuisine, chefs everywhere have exercised their creativity to tantalize our taste buds with an even greater array of tortilla superstars. With Cinco de Mayo celebrations fast approaching, we’ve jumped on the opportunity to explore the Bay’s handheld noshings. You’re welcome.



Doubly Delectable
The more the merrier, especially when Tallulah’s Taco Cart from Tallulah on Thames wraps their carne asada taco with not one, but two soft shell tortillas. Packed with tender steak, this authentic adaptation offered the perfect balance between spice, taste and texture. Lightly acidic pickled radish, crunchy chopped white onion, red pepper relish and fresh cilantro cut through savory beef. The only thing you’re missing is a margarita for your other hand.

Aesthetically Delicious

There was an audible crunch as our staff chomped into Nacho Mamma’s shredded chicken taco filled with pickled red onions, diced tomatoes, sweet chopped mango, roasted red peppers and piquant cilantro. Possibly the prettiest of the bunch, the simply seasoned shell served as the necessary stage for tangy flavors and contrasting textures to steal the show.

What a Catch
The buttery, homemade hard corn tortilla shell from Tito’s Cantina was worth every bite. This seasoned ground beef taco, loaded with jalapeno peppers, chopped tomato salsa, shredded lettuce, jack and cheddar cheese tasted like it was from scratch and made especially for us. Paired with cilantro, an optional dollop of sour cream, and a side of in-house salsa, this was “exactly what we wanted from a beef taco.”

Succulence from the Sea
Melville Grille may change your mind about tacos, but only in the best way possible. A lightly grilled flour tortilla that housed crunchy coleslaw, black bean and corn salsa and a chipotle aioli made a fish lover out of our sea skeptics. Shredded green apple added a complementary sweetness to perfectly cooked salmon, which could be subbed for swordfish or cod. We dubbed this the ideal warm-weather food.
