10+ Father’s Day Must-Do’s

Celebrate the dads and father figures in your life with a weekend of Ocean State fun

Posted

Father’s Day this year also falls on the first day of summer, which is fitting because the Ocean State delivers plenty of warm-weather outings this weekend. If you’re still looking for ways to celebrate the special day with the dads in your life, here’s a handful of ideas for all interests, from spending the day on the water to catching a live show or treating dad to dinner, plus much more.

FOOD & DRINKS

Food truck season is upon us, and you won’t find a better variety of on-the-go local eats on Father’s Day than The Assembly of Food Trucks event on the lawn of Assembly Theatre in Harrisville. Live music and brews from Trinity Brewhouse will round out the evening of fun.

If Bravo Brewing Company isn’t already a great choice for beer-loving dads, Sunday brings a Burgundian Father’s Day Pop-Up menu of waffles, burgers, sandwiches, and more served 11am-4pm to enjoy with a cold one.

Treat dad to a pig roast, beer fest, and live music at Twelve Guns Brewing Saturday for one of two sessions kicking off at 12pm or 4pm. Even better, Dreadfest supports The Dreadnaught Hook, Ladder and Hose Company Number 1, the Bristol search and rescue service. Book your spot early.

For the fathers in your life who love Italian food, the Federal Hill Summer Festival is happening all weekend to celebrate with dine-in specials, food vendors, and live music taking over Atwells Avenue Friday through Sunday.

GET OUTSIDE

The Annual Westerly Car Show returns this year for Father’s Day at the Central Baptist Church of Westerly from 10:30am-1pm. Car enthusiasts can spend the morning admiring classic and antique models.

The Coastal Queen Father’s Day Sunset Beer Tasting is perfect for celebrating on the water with stunning views over sips from General’s Crossing Brewhouse. This cruise takes off from Jamestown Sunday at 7:15pm, with registration required.

Book a reservation for Providence River Boat’s special Father’s Day Boat Tours. Launching from the Providence Marina throughout the day, the 50-minute tours are perfect for bonding over the scenic sights of Providence.

For father figures with an appreciation of the finer things, the 38th Narragansett Arts Festival runs Saturday and Sunday at Veterans’ Park beneath the Towers. Peruse original works and enjoy snacks from food vendors.

CATCH A SHOW

The Greenwich Odeum is honoring the day with a special screening of the classic film, Field of Dreams. Dad will even receive Odeum goodies with a ticket purchase, including a hat, stadium cup, and drink coupon. Doors open at 1pm for a 2pm showing.

Movie lovers can round out the weekend with a visit to the Misquamicut Drive-In Theater, screening Rocket Man at 9pm Sunday night. Tickets are by the carload, so bring the whole family and don’t forget to snag some concessions.

Country music fan? No problem. Live music at Oak Hill Tavern is Brian Joseph performing country covers Sunday evening at 4pm to enjoy with a Father’s Day dinner of wings, steak, or whatever the man of the hour wants.

INDULGE IN A HOBBY

Pick up local produce and goods to cook up a special meal for the big day, and while you’re there, enjoy live music, lawn games, and craft vendors for the Father’s Day Tiverton Market at the Sandywoods Center for the Arts on Saturday, 1-5pm.

Lace up and glide into Father’s Day Skate at the United Skates of America in Rumford, a fun outing for the whole family and free admission for dads from 5-7pm. Complete the experience with laser tag, rock climbing, and of course a slice of pizza.

The Newport Car Museum is getting into the spirit of celebrating the important men in your life all week by offering free admission for dads through June 23. Wander through decades of automotive design and hit the gift shop for a souvenir to take home.
