Weekend Best Bets

June 1-3

Posted

It’s the best part of the week again, and it’s time to start mapping out your weekend plans. It’s going to be warm, so spend some time outdoors.

On Friday night drop by the Waterplace Park to enjoy the beautiful partial lighting of the WaterFire basins. The Providence College Alumni Association sponsors this lighting, but you don’t have to be a P.C. alum to enjoy these bonfires.

Sticking to the city on Saturday will satisfy a wide variety of different tastes and hobbies. You can drop by downtown and shop around during the Providence Art Festival. Sample some of Rhode Island’s best artists, craftsmen and cooks as they all gather together on Westminster Street in Downcity for this annual event.

If you’re shopped out and feel like relaxing, hit the green at Triggs Memorial Golf Course for the MS Annual Golf Day fundraiser. Play some golf with your friends, and stick around to raise money through good food and sports memorabilia.

Or if your penchant is for pretty Providence houses, you should purchase tickets for the Preservation Society’s Festival of Historic Houses. Each day this weekend, the Providence Preservation Society will tour different neighborhoods in the city to appreciate the historical homes and buildings still standing around Providence.

Start your Sunday at Twin Rivers Casino for the 13th Annual Rhody 5k Road Race (or Walk, depending on your personal preference). The run steps off at 9:30am, which leaves you just enough time to run the race, take a shower, and head over to AS220 for Providence’s amazing variety show, The Empire Revue. You never know what you’re going to get with this once-monthly show: music, comedy, magic, dancing – the possibilities are endless, and so is the talent.
