Nestled in one of the most beautiful waterfront locations in the city – in the Gatehouse overlooking the Seekonk River on Providence’s East Side – Waterman Grille offers unparallelled views to pair with its unique and refined take on comfort food. The menu marries the quality of fine dining with the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of a more casual eatery. Waterman Grille specializes in wood fire grilling, offering an extensive selection of small plates and entrees, carefully sourced with local, seasonal ingredients. Share Plates include the Waterman Calamari, the restaurant’s twist on a Rhode Island classic with peppadew aioli, or Local Fish Tacos on house-made tortillas. From the wood grill – redolent of maple, cherry and oak – there is a selection of meats (filet mignon, pork tenderloin, Statler chicken breast and more) with seasonal accompaniments. Similarly, the fresh seafood, including Pan-Roasted Atlantic Salmon and Pan-Seared Georges Bank Scallops, is offered in a variety of presentations that represent what is fresh and local.

Of course, the grand water views present the perfect backdrop for a leisurely brunch, and Waterman Grille offers one of the best every Saturday and Sunday. Again, Executive Chef Tim McGrath’s kitchen elevates comfort food favorites with creative, elegant touches. Take for example, Waterman’s version of French toast: Challah bread with cinnamon batter, toasted pecan butter and Vermont maple syrup. The Newport Benedict reinvents a brunch staple offering two poached eggs on top of pan-fried crab cakes with a green chili-tomato-red onion aioli.

The downstairs Riverview Room again capitalizes on Waterman Grille’s unique location, offering a sweeping view of the river for your private event, including weddings, parties and formal functions for up to 100 people. Or dine out on the covered patio for one of the city’s best al fresco experiences.

Can’t Miss Dish: The Lobster Mac & Cheese with cold water lobster, four-cheese sauce and basil breadcrumbs
