The Weekend Rundown: June 23-25

Posted

June 23: Hold onto your hats and get ready for the Mad Hatter Goes Nautical Party. This event is a fundraiser sponsored by the Association of Migraine Disorders, and all proceeds will go towards migraine research. There will be dinner, music and an awards ceremony for the migraine champions, but remember to wear a nautical-themed hat. If you arrive empty-handed, don’t worry: A hat booth set up by RISD students will provide premade hats and a do-it-yourself hat-making station.

June 24: WaterFire is lighting up the night for their first full lighting of the official summer season. Browse the works of local artist at the WaterFire Arts Festival Plaza on Washington Street, grab a bite and take in the spectacle that’s been enchanting visitors for years.

June 24: The German American Cultural Society in Pawtucket is celebrating the season with beers and brats. Head to SummerFest, which is basically a warmer version of Oktoberfest, and spend a day in the biergarten eating wurst, drinking German brews and dancing to the sounds of the Tuba Frau Hofbrau Band.

June 23-25: Federal Hill already owns Columbus Day, but this year, they’re coming after June, too. The Federal Hill Summer Festival will have everything you love about the Columbus Day Festival: great Italian food, music, arts and shopping – with the added bonus of not having to wait until October to enjoy them.

June 24: Enjoy Roger Williams Park Zoo under ideal conditions – read: without any kids around – at Zoobilee! Feast with the Beasts. The after-hours, adults-only event brings together delicious local restaurants and cocktails. Add music, surprises and the ability to pet baby goats and you’ve got one wild evening.

June 23-25: Transport yourself to France this month, without the plane tickets. The Newport Flower Show is turning the grounds of Rosecliff into a miniature Versailles. Events include a champagne and jazz brunch, an outdoor movie picnic and an appearance by fashion maven Iris Apfel.

June 24-25: The Narragansett Art Festival returns for a 35th year, when local artists set up booths under the Narragansett Towers. Over 100 exhibitors from Rhode Island and New England will display their works in oil and acrylic paint, photography, jewelry, sculpture and more.
