The Weekend Rundown: August 18-20

Posted

August 17-20: The Washington County Fair is back in Richmond this weekend and will feature amusement park rides, tons of music and games, and agricultural and livestock contests – plus a Battle of the Fishermen. There will also be toe-tapping live country music acts all weekend long, including Billy Gilman, Sundance Head, Alec MacGillivray and Runaway June. All that, in addition to 20 food-vendors and over 100 crafters – well, that’s some real down-home fun.

August 17-20: H.P Lovecraft is Providence’s weirdest native son, and NecronomiCon celebrates all things weird and wonderful about the famed horror writer. The celebration, August 17-20 in Providence, includes free events for the curious public and things like the Eldritch Ball for the, shall we say, Cthulhu enthusiasts.

August 16–18: Channel your inner artist for Watercolors in Plein Air, a workshop hosted by the Portsmouth Arts Guild. During the three-day event, the group meets in different locations to hone their outdoor painting skills.

August 19: Unplug at Roger Williams National Memorial for the Downtown Sundown Series. This series brings the coffeehouse singer-songwriter vibe outdoors featuring performances from The Vox Hunters, Lainley Dionne, Kerri Powers and Ava Callery this Saturday.

August 19: Boo City and Kwame Binea brings a mix of rock and soul to the Ocean Mist for a Surf and Soul dance party. If you can think of something better than dancing to great music by the water we’d love to hear about it.

August 20: The Independence Day celebrations aren’t over in Bristol. The Spirit of America Golf Tournament at the Swansea Country Club keeps the patriotic party going, and includes a steak dinner after golf.
