Style Tips from a Local Fashionista

A closer look at Fabulocity's Lisa Baillargeon's wardrobe

Describe this fabulous outfit.
This is a vintage cardigan from my consignment shop Fabulocity, paired with my favorite Ann Taylor dress, a necklace I created for Twist Jewelry Design (Montana agate, black onyx and sterling silver) and insane suede heels from Guess.

How would you define your style?
My style is based upon the belief that in fashion, one should wear things that are flattering first and follow the trends second. Having worked in product development/design in NYC, I believe that the cut and drape of a garment is key for a good fit. Some of my favorite designers are still NYC designers, like Samuel Dong, which we bring to Fabulocity to give Rhode Islanders a taste of NYC fashion. My friends call me “Dress Girl.” I call it “one and done.”

What influences your style?

Places I’ve visited, fabrics that I fall in love with. I have several vintage pieces from my grandmother that I treasure and work into outfits.

Does your store reflect your own style?
We keep up with trends but mix them with classic wearable pieces. There is definitely a lot of “me” in the store but I am also very aware of my core customers’ style and what they look for when they visit. Anthropologie, J.Crew, Free People, Boden, Samuel Dong and vintage pieces, including furs, are wardrobe staples right now. When the dreary weather hits, everyone loves a jolt of color to shake things up. We also love outfitting ladies for the many great soirees on the social calendar.

How do you blend textures, patterns and solids?
The dress is a washable cotton jersey, the sweater is merino wool with ribbon trim and the bag, the bag started it all. I fell in love with Glenda Gies bags and ordered them for my booth at the Newport Flower Show to merchandise with my jewelry line, Twist Jewelry Design. The bags sold like crazy so when the idea for opening a store came along, I knew “The Glendas” would have a great home. We also hope to start carrying StyleWeek alum Kent Stetson at the store.
