Prepping for PVD International Arts Festival

Etam Cru and Natalia Rak bring brick to life

Posted

On Friday, June 5 we went downtown to check in on the progress of some of the murals being painted for the Providence International Arts Festival. The rumble of diesel engines and the beep-beeping of heavy machinery backing up won't be the sounds you hear when you gaze upon the finished pieces, but when you're just two artists, each with an entire side of a building to paint cherry picker is your best friend.

Brought to town by The Avenue Concept with the help of Vienna-based Nicholas Platzer, Poland-based Etam Cru and Natalia Rak had been working on their respective pieces since June 3, more than a week before the official festivities even kick off. Each taking the back of a building between Mathewson and Clement Streets, the arts were hard (and high up) at work as they brought old, exposed brick screaming to life in a dazzling display of color and design.
