PPS Winter Bash turns 15- Glitz & Glamour: A Speakeasy Affair

Posted by pvdpreservation

The secret’s out: Rhode Island’s best party is turning 15 this March 3, and you’ll need your alias and a code word to enter, darling!

The Providence Preservation Society’s award-winning Winter Bash pops up with a robust following in a different historic city space each year. The 2018 locale, ALCO, was once home to such Industrial Era-giants as Rhode Island Locomotive Works, American Locomotive Works and US Rubber. The Bash will be held in the final section of ALCO to be rehabilitated as distinctive commercial space by The Foundry Associates.

This year’s theme, A Speakeasy Affair, pays homage to one of the most bustling of eras in the site’s history, and offers costume options galore: From all-out glam to gangster, bootlegger, flapper, musician, or secret agent. Creative interpretations are strongly encouraged.

Those with the code (ticket) receive complimentary parking, bites and entertainment. VIP code-holders enjoy exclusive-access lounges, bottomless bubbles and elite tastings.

The Winter Bash was named Best Local Event-Providence and Best Nonprofit Fundraiser-Statewide by Rhode Island Monthly in 2017. All proceeds benefit PPS’s mission to improve Providence by advocating for citywide preservation and thoughtful planning and design.

Tickets are on sale now at ppsri.org/bash for $45 through Feb. 3, $55 Feb. 4-Mar. 3 and $65 on site. VIP tickets are $100 through Feb. 3, $110 Feb. 4-Mar. 3 and $125 on site. Ticket holders receive a secret code to enter the “Speakeasy.” PPS members save $10 on all advance ticket types; join at ppsri.org/membership.

Admission includes free parking, entertainment, and complimentary bites provided by several top Providence restaurants and vendors. A cash bar, with proceeds also benefiting PPS, will be stocked by McLaughlin & Moran. VIP ticket-holders receive entrée into a secret lounge stocked with decadent hors d’oeuvres, tastings and bottomless bubbles.

The Winter Bash is made possible in part by PPS Partners in Preservation Bank of America, Bank RI, Gilbane, Duffy & Sweeney and Restivo Monacelli. Additional sponsors include The Foundry Associates and David Smith and Matt Karimi. For sponsorship opportunities, visit ppsri.org/sponsors or contact PPS at 401-831-7440.

A volunteer event committee is co-chaired by Michael Plourde and Christina Robbio.
