A Modern Tavern
Step back into history while experiencing the best American cuisine at Iron Works Tavern. Centrally located in Warwick, Iron Works makes its home in a 19th century mill – but the restaurant itself, and especially the food, are thoroughly modern.

True to its name, Iron Works Tavern serves upscale comfort food – with a fresh perspective. The restaurant sources produce from local farms, and Rhode Island-caught seafood. On your next visit, start with the IWT Buffalo Chicken Dip; the Bacon Wrapped Scallops, with green onion, a cornbread crumble and bourbon-maple butter; or the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, with truffeled parmesan. The Crispy Point Judith Calamari, done a little differently with peppadew aioli and arugula, is always a favorite. Their Raw Bar is perfectly fresh in any season.

For your entree, try the Roasted Atlantic Salmon served with an “everything crust,” roasted peppers and fingerling potatoes, asparagus and lemon herb aioli. There are a few selections that vegetarians will love, including the Lemon Quinoa with baby spinach, roasted artichokes, mushrooms and balsamic syrup. Who could resist Bacon Infused Meatloaf, served with garlic mashed potatoes, roasted mushrooms, buttered green beans, crispy onions and a veal jus; or the 12-Hour Braised Beef Short Rib, with garlic mashed, toasted garlic spinach and braising jus. The Baked Seafood Casserole – haddock, shrimp, scallops topped with buttery cracker crumbs – is always a crowd pleaser. The Iron Works Tavern Mac and Cheese, their signature recipe, can be customized with chicken, bacon and chive; pulled beef short rib; or lazy man’s lobster.

History of the Building
Built by industrialist Thomas Jefferson Hill in 1867 for the manufacture of malleable iron castings, the RI Malleable Iron Works Factory provided the nucleus for the village that was to grow around it.  This factory, the adjoining mill housing in the neighboring blocks, and the train depot next door were all part of Hill’s vision, who gave his name to the village “Hillsgrove.”  The Malleable Iron Works factory burned in 1918 and was almost immediately rebuilt.

The Iron Works Tavern is located in the original main office building, where Hill’s office was located on the second floor.  Much of the original foundry has been preserved, such as the 8–foot 300–pound solid oak front door, the ceilings and beams, along with the brick.  Many other details have been replicated to match the time period.  The Iron Works Tavern is a reflection of this area’s rich history and a beacon of its promising future.

Private Parties at the Tavern
The Tavern’s second level, that features the original and restored Administrative Offices of the Rhode Island Malleable Iron Works, is a unique space for special occasions. The space can be used for cocktail receptions and plated dinners for 16–125 guests. The main semi-private room, known as the “Great Room,” serves as the focal point of Upstairs at the Tavern. With original restoration of the woodwork, this beautiful space includes a fireplace, a full bar and an open marble kitchen. There are also two private dining rooms available for smaller, intimate functions or meetings.
