Dance Circles Around the Competition at Machines with Magnets

A Brooklyn-based vintage soul dance party gets on the good foot with its first RI event

Posted

On October 12, New York Night Train, an NYC-based series of vintage rock and soul dance parties, will be arriving in Rhode Island with "Soul-Clap and Dance-Off" at Pawtucket's Machines with Magnets. Get ready for the self-proclaimed "mother of all soul jams." The 30-minute, judged Dance-Off will have contestants grooving to DJ Jonathan Toubin's eclectic spins of obscure '60s soul, a big hit in NYNT's home of Willamsburg (obviously). Judges include local "celebs" like Lili Marlene's/Justine's proprietor Mike Sears, AS220's Bert Crenca, Chef Diego Perez from Flan y Ajo and more. A cash prize will be offered to the judges' favorite contestant. The party jumps off at 9:30pm with a performance by Ty Jesso of Soul Power; the Dance-Off begins at midnight. Come and discover "the best music you've never heard"!

Tickets are $5 and the event is open to all ages. For more information, contact Blake Zidell or Ron Gaskill at 718-643-9052 or email blake@blakezidell.com or ron@blakezidell.com. www.newyorknighttrain.com
