Long before Providence’s storied renaissance, Capriccio took a chance on a then underdeveloped downtown district and opened its grand doors in 1977. Carved out of the cellars of an historic landmark, the restaurant set a new standard for Rhode Island, offering an experience equal to those in the best cities in the world. Founder Vincenzo Iemma, an Italian immigrant with an impressive European restaurant pedigree, created the classically sophisticated concept that today continues to be a culinary trailblazer.

Capriccio delivers an exquisite experience. Tuxedoed wait staff, fresh cut roses on white linen tables, and deft tableside preparation is set amidst a refined, richly appointed interior. The extensive menu features an international cuisine with a Northern Italian accent. The chefs present a masterful array of dishes featuring both locally and globally-sourced seasonal selections ranging from Waygu beef and Beluga caviar to Maine lobster and their signature Dover sole. Their famous tableside flambés create a one-of-a-kind experience and atmosphere.

At the forefront of upscale dining since day one, Capriccio created the distribution channels for many gourmet foods then new to our region. Farm-raised ostrich, stone crab, pompano, abalone, and Louisiana crayfish are samples of an ever-changing seasonal bounty that finds its way onto the Capriccio bill of fare. To compliment those selections, the restaurant boasts one of the most acclaimed wine cellars in New England and one of the most extensive cognac lists in America.

Standing the test of time for nearly four decades, accumulating dozens of
local and national awards, Capriccio’s dedication to detail and excellence will
always be in style.
