Backstage With Plaid Brixx

Posted

The alternative-pop band Plaid Brixx stole hearts and serenaded the audience this past weekend at The Met for rock band We The Kings’ 10th anniversary tour.

Plaid Brixx, hailing from Columbus, Ohio, consists of vocalist and guitarist Chris Duggan, drummer Mark LeRose and bassist Jared Sawaya. Last year, they released a self-titled EP, which Chris explained is a lot different sound-wise than their first alternative-rock EP, Chemistry. Jared explained that the latest EP has a very “light vibe” and people are really energized by it. This far on tour, he said there has been an overwhelming response and they’re humbled that the audience is so responsive to their music.

During their set, the band played their latest music, including “Don’t Look Down,” “Away We Go” and “The Greener Side.” Throughout their performance, the energy was magnetic. Chris danced around the stage alongside Jared and the audience threw their hands up in the air, swaying and jumping along to their pop-driven, bubbly beat.

“I think there’s a lot of negativity in the world right now and we just want to create a space where people can escape and have fun,” Jared says.

Their sound is unique and jam-worthy, which provided the crowd with catchy lyrics that will be stuck in their heads all week long. Chris, Jared and Mark showed the audience their playful and charming side through each song - pouring their heart into the performance. After their final tune, they handed out a few roses to lucky girls in the audience and pronounced their gratitude for being able to play in Rhode Island.

In an interview before the show, each member explained that they knew music was always the right path for them, and now that they’re here, they described feeling like they’re in a dream-like state. Jared said that they grew up listening to We The Kings and now not only are they opening for them at each show, but they’re hanging out with the band backstage.

“In two years, we want to be playing the same venue and we want it to be our show,” Mark says. “Headlining a show two years from now. I hope that happens. It will happen.”
