A Vision of Modern Style

Eyewear goes from necessity to statement piece

Posted

Eyewear is no longer just for correcting eyesight or shielding the sun’s rays – it is a fashion statement, an accessory that adds the finishing touch to any ensemble. Style-savvy eyewear professional Lynne Diamante has united high-fashion accessories and meticulous service in Johnston’s luxury boutique, OPTX. An extensive range of designs by Cartier, Tom Ford, Tiffany, Dior and Versace, to name just a few, are displayed on lighted shelves and cases. In the rare chance that a customer does not find his or her perfect frame, special orders are available. OPTX was a major sponsor of this summer’s StyleWeek Providence and its wares accessorized a runway show. Here, Diamante shares her eye for style.

How did OPTX get its start?
OPTX was born from a dream of providing an ultra-boutique, luxury experience to all clients, no matter what their price point – from beautiful, cost-conscious frames to the ultimate collector’s couture pieces. The gallery showcases a magnificent selection of sunglasses and eyeglasses, all available for prescription or non-prescription purchase. Top-notch client service and satisfaction was one of the basics motivating the creation of OPTX.

What’s trending in eyewear this season?
One of the biggest requests right now is from clients who do not need glasses for vision correction but want to achieve the “nerd” or “librarian” look. Non-prescription, clear frames are a fashion trend that won’t go away soon. In sunglasses, the aviator frame is having an immense resurgence in popularity. The style looks great on most face shapes. The cat eye is another trend in sunglasses at the moment. Most designers have brought out a “modified” cat eye, which is more wearable and less dramatic than cat eye frames of the ‘80s.

What was the idea behind the store’s interior design?
The interior was in fact designed to be reminiscent of an art gallery; the frames are individual works of art in their own right. We wanted the client to have a peaceful, enlightening experience in the retail showroom. The displays were fashioned with minimalist art in mind. An art gallery invites the visitor to participate in an artistic experience and see new things – this is very similar to the experience of selecting new glasses.

Tell us about your experience with StyleWeek Providence.
It was an amazing experience and a very natural, organic fit to be involved. StyleWeek really has a great handle on the pulse of style, with a bit of fun, trendy fashion thrown in just to keep it fresh and new. OPTX was pleased to be a corporate sponsor to such an amazing, week-long event. We have always tried to stay on the cutting edge of trends, finds and new twists without losing our concept of timeless style. This is similar to what StyleWeek seeks to do at their events and the association with them was wonderful all around.
