Ready, set, go! Whether you’re training to run a marathon or cheering on a runner in the crowd, you’re sure to love the 2017 Newport Rhode Races as it winds through Newport. Starting at Easton’s Beach, this Boston Marathon qualifier and triple race begins at 7:30am, followed by the half-marathon at 8am and ending with the 5K at 8:15am. 175 Memorial Boulevard, Newport. 427-7764

Enjoy a night out with drinks, music and light hors d'oeuvres on the fifth floor Rotunda Room of the Convention Center in Providence. The Night is Young, hosted by United Way, will put all proceeds toward scholarships for children in the Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative. The association hopes to send 13 more students to summer learning programs if enough money is raised. Cocktails and doing good for the community? So there. 1 Sabin Street, Providence. 444-0639

Get crafty with some Wild Art at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Artist and educator Eric Fulford, known for  his comic book art, will be the guest teacher. Students will be able to visit the river otter before returning to the classroom to create their pieces based on the chosen animal. This event is open to children from ages 6 to 12. 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Providence. 785-3510

Rock out at Wolfman Chuck’s 4th Annual Rock ‘N Roll Show at Firehouse 13. Artists include an acoustic opening set by Rodney St. Onge, Angry Johnny & the Killbillies, Jodi Jolt & The Volt, Angela's Curse and Wolfman Chuck & The Spookalale of Doom. There will also be a CD release. 41 Central Street, Providence. 270-1801

Get comfy with some egg rolls while listening to jazz music at Chan’s Fine Oriental Dining. 2017 Blues Music Award nominee Victor Wainwright and Wildroots will be performing a “must see” show. The band is the  winner of BB King Entertainer of the Year, Band of the Year, and 2016 Contemporary Album of the Year so you know this is going to be a great show. 267 Main Street, Woonsocket. 765-1900

Since 1983, Hot Club has been serving drinks on the water, and it’s time to celebrate the sweet spot’s 29th birthday (for the fifth time). Live music, cold drinks and a rockin’ 80s theme are all things that are making this 34th birthday extravaganza the place to be. 25 Bridge Street, Providence. 861-9007

Ugh, as if! The 90s may be well behind us (nearly 20 years, to be exact), but the music and culture live on in Fete’s The Mix Tape, a night of nothing but hip-hop and dance hits from the age of JNCO jeans and flannels. It’s a night totally worth checking out. 103 Dike Street, Providence. 383-1112

Sunday, April 16

Get to the Columbus Theatre for the Columbus Film Club, a curated, ongoing series that will look at under-appreciated new movies and unsung classics with a focus on women in film. This month catch Harold and Maude. 270 Broadway, Providence.
