Intern with Providence Media

Providence Media is a leader in Rhode Island lifestyle content. We publish five magazines—four monthly and one bimonthly—for an average monthly circulation of more than 60,000 copies. Our magazines—Providence MonthlyEast Side MonthlyThe BaySO Rhode Islandand Hey Rhody—each cover a different section of the state and include in-depth features, event listings, restaurant reviews, and style guides. Our mission is to share with our readers how to live your best life in Rhode Island, and what you need to know about what’s going on in the state.

We are currently offering a fall internship that will start in September and culminate in December. Interns will have the opportunity to work with Providence Media’s fast-moving editorial team, helping to pull together all five magazines, four of which are produced monthly, and to promote these print products on social media, across multiple platforms. Interns’ duties will include fact-checking, proofreading, writing content, researching and pitching story leads, posting magazine content to our website and creating original, web-only content, assisting with the planning and execution of events and product testing, and assisting with new sales initiatives, including market research. Interns with initiative, skill, and willingness to learn will be given increased responsibilities and additional creative work, with the opportunity to earn freelance pay for stories and build a portfolio of published clips.

Ideal candidates will have solid writing skills, excellent attention to detail and communication skills, a high level of professionalism and motivation. We are looking for candidates who are punctual, reliable, and willing to accept feedback and learn from it, and who want to try their hands at every aspect of magazine production, from the most mundane to the most exciting. We accept candidates with all levels of experience in media work, and from all fields of study. Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft and Google Suites; Adobe Creative Suite proficiency is helpful but not required. The internship is, unfortunately, unpaid, but we provide college credit. Interns are expected to work out of Providence Media’s Pawtucket offices for 20 hours a week. Interns’ hours can be scheduled around preexisting commitments but must remain consistent from week to week.

By July 31st, please submit a resume, three writing samples, and a cover letter to Sophie Hagen at Please note whether you would like school credit for the internship.
